About The Discovery Programme

Untitled-2The Discovery Programme (www.discoveryprogramme.ie) is an independent and charitable institution concerned with advanced research on the archaeology of Ireland. The Discovery Programme has taken a leading role in the introduction to archaeology of new technologies and techniques including 3D digital documentation. Currently the Discovery Programme is a partner of the EU co-funded 3D-ICONS project (http://3dicons-project.eu/). This project aims to develop a 'pipeline', from 3D digitisation to dissemination, for architectural and archaeological monuments and buildings identified by UNESCO as being of outstanding cultural importance.  The chosen candidate will participate in the creation of 3D photorealistic models derived from laser scanning, photogrammetry and other 3D data capture techniques and the creation of 3D models suitable for online presentation.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to model and texture 3D cultural heritage objects/structures from point cloud data and laser scan derived mesh data
  • Ability to create high quality materials and textures of cultural heritage objects
  • Produce high quality renders and animations
  • The creation of 3D objects for online access (e.g. 3D PDF,  Unity)
  • Develop and document the modelling pipeline for the creation of 3D models from laser scan and object scan data

Requirements

  • Have proven experience working as a 3D modeller
  • Experience of deriving 3D models from point cloud data
  • Excellent 3DS Max skills
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Photoshop, Mudbox, VRAY, Premiere and/or After Effects
  • Previous experience of producing models of cultural heritage objects and buildings
  • Be accurate, creative and have an eye for detail
  • Show initiative and be able to develop ideas
  • Work effectively as part of a team or individually
  • Good communication skills
  • Knowledge of 3D PDF/USD modelling and Unity modelling an advantage

Further Job Information

Start date: September 2013
Annual salary €29,085 pro rata (€2,423.75 per month)
Fixed term, 1 year contract
Position located in Central Dublin
Working hours: 9.00 - 17.00 (Monday to Friday)
